Schools cracking down on teacher dress code

You've heard of dress codes for students, but in a month, the Peoria Unified School District is setting up clear rules for what teachers can and can't wear.

"Making sure that you don't have shirts that are too low-cut or skirts that are too short," said Danielle Airy with the district. "Making sure that you're wearing the appropriate footwear so that you don't get injured on the job -- maybe on the playground."

While the students' dress code comes from the school, the teacher's dress code was the idea of a few teachers.

"There was a committee of employees that got together to bring forth this proposal to the governing board to make sure that it was something that [would work]," said Airy. "They know best what is appropriate for their environment and so they provided us with those suggestions."

The new dress code will require men to wear collared shirts and will only permit gym teachers to wear sweats.
