PAGE, Ariz. - Authorities say a hiker from Switzerland has been rescued after getting trapped in a northern Arizona canyon.
Coconino County Sheriff's officials say the 35-year-old Zurich resident was recovering from an ankle injury at a Flagstaff hospital. His name hasn't been released.
They say the man was rescued early Monday from Waterholes Canyon, a tributary to the Colorado River located some 5 miles south of Page.
Authorities say the hiker had one short length of rope that he used to go down the first dry waterfall, but sustained rope burns to his hands.
He also injured an ankle, had no cell phone reception and was stuck some 400 feet above the river.
The man was found after Navajo police officers located his vehicle at the canyon trailhead.
